AACR Annual Meeting Embargo Policy

Abstracts will be posted to the online itinerary planner at the time embargoes lift.

With the exception of abstracts selected for the official AACR Annual Meeting press program:

  • Regular abstracts will be posted online and lift embargo at 4:30 p.m. ET, Feb. 27, 2019, along with titles, presenters, and presentation details (NO DATA) for late-breaking and clinical trial abstracts; and
  • Full text for late-breaking and clinical trial abstracts will be posted online and lift embargo at 3 p.m. ET, March 29, 2019.

Abstracts selected for the official Annual Meeting press program will post online and lift embargo throughout the meeting. For abstracts included in press conferences, the embargo lifts at the beginning of the press conference where the abstract is presented. For abstracts not included in press conferences but promoted via news release, the embargo lifts at the beginning of the scientific session where the abstract is presented.

Outside Press Releases

Public information officers or public relations firms representing academia or industry with abstracts in the meeting can issue press releases on any information that is publicly available via the AACR’s online itinerary planner.

Abstracts selected for the official AACR Annual Meeting press program are embargoed until date and time of presentation, either at an official AACR press conference or in a scientific session. Press program abstracts will be made publicly available once the embargo lifts. Public information officers or public relations firms representing academia or industry with abstracts in the official press program should work closely with the AACR Communications and Public Relations Department to coordinate publicity efforts and ensure that embargo and outside press material policies are followed.

For abstracts not in the press program:

For data news releases issued before the meeting, you may ONLY include information that is available in the online abstract. Additional or updated data that are not in the abstract but will be presented at the meeting are embargoed until the beginning of the session where the study is featured.

Data press releases for regular abstracts featuring any information included in the online abstract may be issued at 4:30 p.m. ET, Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019.

Please note: Regular abstract titles will not be announced prior to 4:30 p.m. ET, Feb. 27, 2019. Therefore, announcement and curtain-raiser press releases will not be permitted before this date.

For late-breaking and clinical trial abstracts, curtain-raiser press releases featuring ONLY the abstract title, presenter, and presentation details (date, time, location, etc.) may also be issued at 4:30 p.m. ET, Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019. No data may be included in these announcements.

Data press releases for late-breaking and clinical trial abstracts featuring any information included in the online abstract may be issued at 3 p.m. ET, Friday, March 29.

Embargo Violations: Presenters and Public Relations

Presenters, their companies/institutions, and affiliated public relations representatives who break the AACR’s embargo policy as outlined above could jeopardize an abstract’s placement in the scientific program and inclusion in the AACR press program.

Embargo Violations: Media

Individuals registered as press for the AACR Annual Meeting agree to abide by all embargoes. In advance of the Annual Meeting, the AACR will provide press program abstracts, press releases, and other materials under embargo to facilitate accurate and comprehensive reporting. Failure to abide by the AACR's embargoes may result in removal from AACR pre-embargo press lists and dismissal from current and future AACR meetings.
