In Memoriam: Margaret Hargreaves

Margaret Hargreaves, MS, PhD, an AACR member whose research focused on health disparities, died May 18, 2019, at age 81.
Hargreaves grew up in Jamaica. She earned a bachelor's degree from MacDonald College of McGill University in 1959; a master's degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1963; and earned her PhD from the University of Toronto in 1970. A nutritionist by training, her research interests expanded into the study of health disparities for key chronic diseases, including cancer prevention and control.
Hargreaves was a professor and director of the Prevention Research Unit in the Department of Internal Medicine at Meharry Medical College, a historically black college in Nashville. In recent years, she had secured a Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) grant to launch a local program to encourage healthy eating among African Americans.
Hargreaves joined the AACR in 2002 and was a member of Women in Cancer Research and Minorities in Cancer Research.
