  • As part of a new strategic partnership, the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) and Cancer Research UK (CRUK) have agreed to jointly host this conference on Engineering and Physical Sciences in Oncology. Principles of engineering and physics have been applied to oncology for nearly fifty years, with engineers and physical scientists making contributions to all aspects of cancer biology from quantitative understanding of tumor growth and progression to improved detection and treatment of cancer. We have seen exponential growth at the interface of engineering, mathematics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, physics, and cancer research with advances in materials science, nano-medicine, microfluidics, imaging, etc. This conference is being developed not only to gather leaders in these fields to discuss applications of their research to cancer, but also to bridge the divide between these fields to develop networks and start collaborations that can address cancer research and medicine from a physical sciences perspective. Our core aim is to develop an interactive and collaborative event, with a broad-ranging scientific focus that brings together basic, translational, and clinical scientists from across cancer research with researchers from engineering, mathematics, physics, and chemistry.
