Associate Member Council (AMC) Committees

Applications for 2017-2018 are now closed. Applications for the 2018-2019 term should open in January 2018.

These committees offer the opportunity for early-career investigators to advance their professional development, enhance their skillsets, and they provide the ability to network with colleagues from around the globe. Additionally, serving on these committees allows members to work more closely with the AACR and the AMC around initiatives that address the needs and concerns of early-career cancer researchers. All interested Associate Members in good standing (with dues paid through Dec. 31st of the current calendar year) may apply to serve for one-year terms on either of the two AMC Committees - Communications or Fundraising.

In 2015, the Associate Member Council (AMC) introduced the opportunity for Associate Members in good standing to become more involved with the AACR, and obtain a chance for additional networking and professional development. This opportunity was the creation several AMC Committees. Dedicated to advancing AACR’s early-career investigator efforts, members of these committees serve one-year terms that start and conclude at the AACR Annual Meeting.

Communications Committee Charge:

The AMC Communications Committee aims to effectively initiate a dialogue among, and create a community for, the AACR Associate membership, year-round. Through the promotion of current AACR programming, the dissemination of cancer-relevant news, and the creation of original career development content, this committee provides insights into topics of major interest to early-career cancer researchers. The committee explores, increases awareness of, and provides visibility for, the achievements and challenges of AACR’s Associate Members by contributing to mediums including, but not limited to: 1) Blog posts for the AACR Cancer Research Catalyst; 2) Articles and online resources for the AACR website and the AACR Associate Member Quarterly e-Bulletin; and, 3) Posts and commentary on social media. Ultimately, the AMC Communications Committee, in collaboration with the AMC and the AACR, hopes to foster opportunities for members to gain vital skills for communicating to broad audiences, provide an increased sense of relevance and value to AACR’s early-career cancer researchers, and continually explore innovative methods to improve communication and engagement.

Fundraising Committee Charge:

The AMC Fundraising Committee aims to not only explore, but also engage in, unique fundraising activities to raise awareness and funds to support the mission of the AMC and the AACR to prevent and cure all cancers. The creation of opportunities to support and engage with early-career scientists within the AACR community include, but are not limited to: 1) Supporting the activities and initiatives of the AACR Foundation through the establishment of teams to participate in, and/or fundraise for, events such as the AACR Annual Meeting 5K Run/Walk and the Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon series; 2) Organizing and developing unique fundraising initiatives such as the "Flavor of the City" Networking and Fundraising Event at the AACR Annual Meetings; and, 3) Creating content and program resources that will help promote and empower Associate Members to engage in effective advocacy and/or fundraising efforts. Funds raised by the AMC Fundraising Committee will go towards supporting the missions of the AMC and the AACR, and will provide revenue for unique initiatives that directly benefit early-career cancer researchers.

Conference Calls​​​

All committee members participate in regularly-scheduled planning conference calls throughout the year to develop professional development programs, communication initiatives or innovative fundraising strategies, per each committee’s directive. Members are expected to work together towards the goals outlined by each committee chair/co-chairs.
